Rivian Automotive has unveiled its revamped all-electric R1 pickup and SUV models, boasting significant improvements in range, performance, and computing power. The second-generation R1S SUV and R1T pickup feature over half of their hardware components replaced, including reengineered batteries and electrical architectures. The new vehicles incorporate dual Nvidia DRIVE Orin processors, delivering a tenfold increase in computing power compared to the previous system.
The revamped R1S and R1T models offer enhanced performance, with the top-end quad-motor now delivering up to 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 pound-foot of torque using Launch Mode, achieving 0 mph to 60 mph acceleration in just 2.5 seconds. The vehicles also boast more luxurious, updated interiors and a fully redesigned software interface, along with improved charging times, capable of adding up to 140 miles of range in approximately 20 minutes.
Pricing for the second-generation R1S SUV will increase by $1,000 to start at $75,900, while the R1T pickup's starting price remains unchanged at $69,900. Top-end trimotor models for both vehicles will start around $106,000 and $100,000, respectively.
Rivian's CEO and founder, RJ Scaringe, expressed his excitement about the upgraded flagship vehicles, stating, 'We continue to evolve our flagship R1 vehicles, offering quality and performance without compromise. Our revamped R1S and R1T push the technical boundaries further, creating our most capable products to date.'
